Time for another of my own home reveals- The one thing that lockdown gave me earlier this year was time- something we rarely get at By Charlie- so after 3.5 years of working from this space previously used as an apartment, I setup my office at last and finally feel comfortable to have clients and team meetings here. My house is very modern, industrial and monochrome so I wanted to create an entirely different feel in this space which would keep me calm & focused. I purchased NOTHING new for this transformation, only painting that green wall then using items either left from the previous owner or from my old guest rooms/house. Headquarters complete!

September 14th 2015 I shut my guest room door, sat down at my tiny new desk and setup an instagram as my website prepared to go live. By Charlie was born and here we are 5 years later having produced over 50 weddings and expanded from weddings to weddings, corporate events, private parties,3d drawings, home organization & concierge services. I have cried with stress, exhaustion, relief,excitement and happiness. I have worked with small emerging businesses through to worldwide 6* brands, I have worked with some amazing brides and have after some challenging trial and error experiences built a loyal, talented & amazing team. Heres to the past 5 and the lessons learnt, heres to the next 5 and the big plans I have. Happy Birthday my third baby, By Charlie Ltd. Cheers 🥂

On the eve of the company’s 5th anniversary (or birthday as I like to call it as By Charlie is my 3rd baby) I have been thinking and reflecting on the past half a decade. Trying to recall my frame of mind on 13 September 2015 holding a 6 month old baby, giving up a secure salary job and knowing what I was about to try. Considering how much I’ve changed both as a person & a planner. What have I learnt about business, myself and others in these 5 years and what are my aims & goals both short & long term. I have been reflecting on the good & bad- the more ‘challenging’ clients who have pushed me to my limits but taught me a lot as well as the clients who have become great friends. Considering those I most endeavor to work with moving forward and planning how I can make that happen. I have looked back at vendors that let me down & broke my trust, the partners who’ve proved themselves & have been crucial in our success so far and those who have been at our side supporting from day 1! The vital self criticism that allows me to improve, grow & learn, provide a better service and enables me to accept my flaws to improve or adapt. Reminding myself of my morals, ethics & roots. After having my second baby almost a year ago, I have been thinking about the balance between my roles as planner & mummy (plus wife)- each of which I adore but that individually demand significant time, attention & TLC to perform 100%. Now is our most challenging time since launching- a time where we had back to back bookings which had to cancel or reschedule-so I reflect on the fragility of my industry and life as a business owner on a small, tourism dependent island. I have a lot on my to do list and I look forward to continuing, improving, expanding and creating to produce the most exciting, elite & jaw dropping weddings & events St Lucia has to offer.

Even though you have a potty mouth 😝 (i agree this year deserves it) this was a lovely review to have received and much appreciated. A lot of brides who had to reschedule have been feeling discouraged, demotivated or deflated by 2020. Our lovely Ellie was one of them but after a few reassuring conversations -and a couple of more stern pep talks 😂- we are now getting back to planning with extra saving time as a bonus which will allow her to include some of the more premium elements she wanted. Couples- don’t let this pandemic ruin the excitement or process- lets keep the momentum going.
